Hello and Welcome!

My name is Aislinn Mumford, and I am a PhD student in the department of biological sciences at Louisiana State University in the Lagomarsino Lab. I have a masters degree in agricultural science from the University of New Hampshire where I investigated harvesting practices for a novel crop, the kiwiberry. Currently, I am interested in the fruit traits of wild plants, specifically in a Neotropical group called Palicourea.

My Story

From the early days of my childhood growing up on a Christmas tree farm in Rhode
Island, I have been fascinated by plants, and since meeting a botanist as a teenager, I knew botany
was the career I wished to pursue. My love for plant science grew during my undergraduate experience as a plant science major at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, and my interests in fruit traits were refined during my master's degree at the University of New Hampshire. Now, I am in my third year of a PhD program in biological sciences at
Louisiana State University focusing on the biogeography and phylogenomics of Neotropical plants.
Specifically, I will be investigating the evolution of color and nutrient signaling in a
genus in the Rubiaceae.
